Great Lengths

For your big day, luxuriously long locks may just be within reach. Here, how to get and keep a crown of glory.

It seems every bride-to-be we know even die hard fans of the pixie cut-wants Lady Godiva's tresses or her big day.  And no wonder: There's something romantic, beautiful, and at the same time sexy about long hair that makes it so appealing for your wedding day.  But long hair is only lust-worthy if it's shiny and healthy.  So read on for everything you need to know to grow your hair out and get it in glorious shape.
The Mane Event
In order to have gorgeous hair, first make sure your scalp is healthy.  Think of your scalp as you do your face.  The more you take care of it, the healthier and better the appearance.  So massage your scalp  daily (just for a minute or two!) to stimulate follicle growth and blood circulation.  Choose shampoos with exfoliating ingredients, such as green tea and licorice, and water-soluble styling products to help prevent buildup on the scalp.  A weekly deep-conditioning ask is great for  both your hair and your scalp look for one that's intensely hydrating for best results.  Also, frequent trims are essential to get rid of split ends.

You Are What You Eat
Generally speaking the healthier you are the healthier your hair will be.  Because hair is 93% protein, it's crucial to get enough protein in you diet.  Also, since many women suffer from low levels of iron, which can cause hair to thin, weaken, and even fall out, include foods with a high iron content (lean read meat, whole grains, and dark leafy greens, like spinach) when planning your menues.
Dos and Don'ts
The less you brush your hair, the better.  Too much brushing can break the hair and pull it out.  Never, ever use a brush on wet hair! Choose a wide-tooth comb and when detangling, start from the bottom and gently work your way up.  When all the tangles are out, comb through from root to end to smooth the cuticle.  Also, always use a protective spray or cream when heat styling or going out in the sun.
